Wright-Soliman Prediction

Winky Wright’s bout tonight with Sam Soliman, ostensibly setting up a near-term contest with middleweight champion Jermain Taylor, is testimony to what is wrong with boxing. Soliman is a tough and ready top 15-type fighter who is somehow rated number 1 by the IBF. He is in fact nowhere close to the caliber of Winky. Indeed, he has never beaten a consensus top-rated fighter. Winky will zoom past Soliman to a shutout 12-round decision.

JE-I'm not saying this just in hindsight of Soliman's relatively good performance last week, and I do NOT think he should have been ranked #1,but...I didn't find it to be completely incredulous or preposterous either. As one of Solimans (and his questionable ranking) more vocal critics early this year and last,I was a bit surprised when I took a closer look at things.Yes,he only beat one guy who could MAYBE (at the time) be considered legit top-10 material in Joval. But through mostly sheer ACTIVITY coupled with a surprising lack of depth in the division,he was definetly a legit top-10,and arguably even as high as #5! This surprised me.After the top-5 or so,it 'falls off' rapidly.I have Kelly Pavlik cracking my top-10 just recently, and although winning convincingly,he hasn't really beaten anyone yet either!

P.S-I watched that Soliman-Taylor fight again the other night-and while I gave SS more rounds than you did-I still could not IMAGINE giving him more than 4 or 5.He was feisty, and you could make an argument that it was close, but he did NOT win.

BTW-*Chuckle* I see you have kind of aquired a new little 'friend' of sorts on ESB! Just wait until they start using your moniker,as one of my 'overzealous' fans has taken upon himself to do.I wouldn't dare give them the satisfaction--but yes,it IS annoying.I can handle everything else, but that one drives me beserk to the point of wanting to insert a size 11 1/2 shoe so far up their ass they will be spitting out leather. After all,I have not only my good name to protect, but also the name of the most sacred and esteemed weight division in boxing history as well...
